Perth City Swimming Club - Join
How to join PCSC, who to contact, what the pre-requisites are

Already joined up and wonder what the next steps are? Got this covered - click here for information. If not, then read on.

Get in touch

Please phone or email the membership secretary - or come along to the pool on a Friday night.  The membership secretary is usually manning the 'table' in the foyer.  You will be told about how the club operates, and when the next trials are to be held. A notice will be posted on the club notice board at Perth Leisure Pool. The notice board is at the top of the stairs that go down to the changing rooms, by the pay-phone.

Child Protection Policy

PCSC take the protection of all swimmers very seriously, and have, to this end, published their Child Protection Policy and Code of Conduct. If you have any questions of concerns to raise about Child Protection please contact one of the PCSC Child Protection Officers named on the Policy.

Trials

Assessment sessions are held during the year for swimmers aged 6 - 9, who are interested in joining the club.  Provided that you can swim 1 length of frontcrawl, breaststroke, and backcrawl, then you will be invited to join.  On the day of the trial please bring along a spare towel and T-shirt to keep you warm while you are waiting for your turn in the water. We don't teach complete beginners, but you do not have to have completed the full SPLASH course before you join.

Places are usually very limited and we are sorry to say that there will inevitably be some swimmers who go away disappointed.
The coache(s) will explain why your child has not made it into the club, so that you can continue to improve their technique.
It is important that parents are at hand to take care of any disappointment, and to encourage their child to continue swimming, and maybe to try again at the next assessment session.

We are always looking for older swimmers who are already swimming competitively. They should get in touch with the club to arrange an individual session. You will be asked about where you have been swimming, what your PBs are and how much training you have done.

What does it cost?

Annual membership costs £25 each - most of which goes to SASA for managing the sport in Scotland, and for providing insurance.

If you have not paid membership, you are NOT covered by insurance and must not compete for PCSC.

In addition to the annual membership there are fees for being in the training squads. These fees cover the costs of the coaching staff, pool hire, league matches and club running expenses..

The squad fees PAYABLE TO PCSC vary depending upon which training squad you are in - 2005 costs FROM 1 JUNE 2005 are as follows:
In addition to these fees, swimmers are required to pay per visit to the pool, following table.

It is extremely helpful for the treasurer if you can pay by standing order. We would therefore be grateful if you could arrange to pay by this method. An MS Word file with the form for setting up a standing order is at here
Those who pay quarterly should pay at the beginning of February, May, August and November, please.
In some cases payment by standing order may not be possible. If this is the case you can still pay by passing a cheque or cash to Membership Sec or Treasurer.

Forms for standing order are also available from Treasurer or membership secretary, and available for download in MS Word format here.

First Session & Friday Nights

Parents: please do resist the temptation to just drop your child off at the pool and head to Tesco!
Your child will really appreciate your involvement and support, and if your child does feel unwell, or unable to cope, the coaches will find it easier if you are around!

When you join PCSC you will be told when to come along for your first session.  The key things to remember are:

1. arrive 15-20mins before the start of the session to make sure that you find a locker, and get on the poolside on time.

2. bring trunks, towel, goggles, water bottle, 50p for the locker - you won't need floats for some time

3. the coaches and pool-side helpers are all used to helping new swimmers, so don't be afraid to ask if you have any questions

4. make sure your mum or dad get a good seat on the balcony to watch you, or, better still, ask them to help out on poolside

(for a good site that describes how to choose goggles go to Pullbuoy goggles pages)

How will I know what to do?

This is the big question for most swimmers and parents alike!!  The short answer is that you won't know what to do all the time!!  But there are always other parents, coaches poolside helpers, and other swimmers etc..... who can answer any question you may have - technical, organisational, diet, etc....  Every one of us was in the same position asking "Now What!?" at some time in the past!  There is also a stack of info on this web site - search and surf and you may find the answer - if not, let me know by emailing me at webmaster@pcsc.org.uk and I will add in the information you need just as soon as I can.

Joined up! Now what?
