PCSC is a competitive swimming club, affiliated to the Scottish Amateur Swimming
Association. Entering two teams in the Midland District Leagues, PCSC has
had consistent success over the years. Swimmers compete at a number of
local, district and national events at pools as far apart as Inverness, Dunoon,
Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
With young swimmers, our aim is to develop good technique, meeting all of the
technical demands of the sport, gradually building up stamina and strength as they develop. Associated skills such
as diving and turns are built along the way so that swimmers can quickly enter for the local competitions, and be given the opportunity to swim for the club in
a league team.
PCSC has produced international class swimmers in the past, and we are always striving to produce the next generation of top class athletes.
Along the way we measure the progress of our swimmers at District level, in National Schools and National Championships, and in competitions against the
other 'home nations'. Our swimmers appear on the ASA Ranking tables, some of them are ranked no.1 in Scotland, as well
as having high UK rankings.
Swimming is a sport where you can very quickly judge your own performance against full-time athletes competing at the Olympics or Commonwealth Games. From day 1 with PCSC you will be competing under the same technical rules, with the same basic equipment - water, lane ropes, starting blocks etc! The self discipline and teamwork learned in the pool are key to success in school and at work.
Comments from parents and swimmers include:
"... at least my
16 year old isn't hanging around on street corners getting wasted ....!"
"... he has learned that focus, hard work and discipline bring rewards - medals, personal
best times, and even better school results..."
"... stamina fitness and strength soon develop ... a 'full body' workout .."
"... even the head teacher knows who I am because of my swimming... "
"... it showed a prospective employer that I have commitment and determination...."
"... I didn't really feel up to it, but couldn't let my mates down... and we won!"
" Amazingly the kids are up earlier on Sat and Sun than during the week..!"
What motivates the swimmers varies enormously, but even the youngsters are very competitive, and like to bring home the medals and trophies and talk about personal best times (PBs)
"..it's a good social time with some great people... er... and it keeps me fit ...and gives me a six pack..."
"...I'm going to compete for Scotland at the next Commonwealth games .."
"...I just want to cut my personal best times each time I race ..."
"...I want to win at the Tayside Schools Champs for my school ..."
"...I want to improve my technique so I can get on the team.. "
"...this counts toward my standard grade PE "
"...it helped me pass my Duke of Edinburgh... "
"...Yes I do manage to fit in school work and training... "
PCSC
started out over 100 years ago as Pullar's amateur swimming club - and a number
of the club trophies date back to the early 1900s. (If you have more

Most of our training is done at the 5 lane, 25m Perth Leisure Pool run by Perth and Kinross Leisure
Ltd. Situated next to Dewar's ice rink, just off the Glasgow Road, the pool boasts an excellent
leisure pool with flumes and rapids which is ideal if younger brothers and
sisters want a swim while older siblings are training. There is also a
well equipped gym for mum and dad to have a workout!
The squads also train at Kinross pool once a week, and from time to time special sessions are arranged at the National
Swimming Centre 50m pool at Stirling University. On Sunday morning the top two squads do land-training for strenght, suppleness and strength. These sessions are about 1hr long and take
place at the Letham Centre in Perth. The club operates on a squad basis - as your technique and times improve you will be invited to move to
a faster squad, which opens up additional training times, and harder training
programmes to you. Members of the Medal, Merit and Development squads are expected to
enter District and National events, and other appropriate competitions. Members of the Club squad may enter competitions if they wish. Full details of training times are on the training page. Friday night:All new members (other than competitive swimmers) will swim for up to 60mins on a Friday night from 1800.
As they improve they will move to later sessions, before they are invited into the other squads where their training will increase and they will enter competitions. When do we train?
